Prior to joining this awesome team, I worked as a Personal Care Assistant for elderly individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease. I’ve loved working with the elderly since I was in the 7th grade and was a candy-striper at a local nursing home until I graduated from High School. As a young child, I lived next door next to a girl – my best friend – who was autistic. She was in a Sunday school class that my mother taught. Instead of attending my Sunday school class, I would help my mom in her class of autistic adults. It was then that I decided that I wanted to become an exceptional child educator. Working with individuals on the autism spectrum is my passion! I taught school for many years in the Atlanta, GA area; it was most rewarding to teach job skills as a Job Coach in an array of occupations. I found it extremely rewarding to help others become successful in the workplace. In 2005, I was awarded the local Optimist Club Teacher of The Year and in 2009 I received the Tommy Nobis Award for Excellence in working with individuals with special needs.
